Theatre iPhone Apps

The iPhone is among the most useful little gadgets that a person can own thanks, almost entirely, to the applications which owners can download and install with nothing more than a few prods and pokes.

Sure, there's a lot of junk in the App Store but there are also a few gems which will help make any London theatre break even more enjoyable. From help navigating the Tube to a fun game to keep you busy while you're on it, our top three theatre-lovers' iPhone apps will help you make the most of your phone and your time in the city.

We Will Rock You - The Game
Queen's jukebox musical has been a fixture in London's West End for quite some time now (eight years to be precise) and in that time it has won no fewer than 11 major theatre awards. In late 2009 this exceptionally popular show launched their own iPhone app, and it's pretty fun.

A management simulator ala Championship Manager, We Will Rock You - The Game allows theatre-fans to manage the production of We Will Rock You. You can make production and creative decisions, flog merchandise, and even do a spot of marketing. If you make the right decisions then eventually your production will make it to the Dominion Theatre. If not, then it's the school hall for you!

iTheatre
iTheatre is a theatre fan's dream app. It offers what's on listings, reviews, images, and maps of theatre locations. It even allows you to book discount tickets through your handset. Obviously if you're visiting the capital on a pre-arranged London theatre break then you won't be booking any tickets, but it's still a lovely feature.

The maps feature is particularly handy if you have trouble navigating London's West End - something many visitors on a London theatre break can struggle with.

Although a little clunky at the moment, iTheatre is constantly improving and the theatre listings feature alone is a must-have for any gadget-loving musical head. It even works quite well outside of London!

Tube Deluxe
London's hot, noisy, and busy Tube system can be a little bit intimidating for visitors to the capital, especially if you don't know your way around. Fortunately, the iPhone can come to your rescue with the easy-to-use Tube Deluxe app.

On top of a nice clear Tube map, Tube Deluxe lets users know the status of each Tube line when it opens, ideal if you're in a rush to get to the theatre and need to avoid delays. If you struggle to find the Tube station, no worries; Tube Deluxe can find your nearest one using GPS (assuming you have a signal, which you will in central London).

This indescribably useful app also displays every station's departure board, details on the first and last trains running, and can trace your train's progress from station-to-station towards you.
